SoundCloud Download Gates After the Hypeddit API Change

Short answer: on 11 June 2026 Hypeddit's API connection to SoundCloud was paused, so Hypeddit gates can no longer require a SoundCloud follow, like or repost. SoundCloud did not ban download gates. A gate that performs the actions through SoundCloud's official API, with the fan's permission, can still verify them. TimbrGate does this today, for free.

A SoundCloud download gate asks a fan to follow the artist, like the track or repost it before the free download unlocks. For years Hypeddit was the best-known tool for this. On 11 June 2026 Hypeddit published a notice to its users explaining that its API connection to SoundCloud had been paused.

According to that notice:

• The SoundCloud step in a Hypeddit gate became voluntary. Fans are still asked to repost, like and follow, but they can skip it.
• Email and the other unlock steps kept working.
• Hypeddit described the situation as ongoing, saying it was working with SoundCloud "on what comes next".

For artists who used gates to grow a SoundCloud following, this removed the part that made the gate worth running: a guaranteed follow or repost for every download.

No. A public issue on SoundCloud's official API repository asked exactly this question. In August 2026 a contributor on that repository replied that SoundCloud "did not block such services in general and do not plan to", while noting they could not comment on individual cases (soundcloud/api issue #550).

SoundCloud's API terms allow an app to act on a user's behalf only when the user deliberately starts that action through an authenticated use of the app. In practice that means a gate may follow, like or repost for a fan only after the fan signs in and clicks a button that says exactly what will happen.

1. The artist creates a free download gate, uploads the file and adds SoundCloud actions: follow, like, repost, or all three.
2. The fan sees one button that names every action, for example "Follow + Like + Repost".
3. The fan signs in to SoundCloud in a popup. TimbrGate performs the named actions through SoundCloud's official API.
4. Each action is recorded as verified. The access token is used once and discarded; TimbrGate never stores it.
5. The download unlocks.

This has run in production since 3 September 2026. In its first three weeks fans completed close to 200 SoundCloud follows, likes and reposts through the one-click button, each one confirmed by SoundCloud's API.

YouTube works the same way: the YouTube subscribe step uses YouTube's official API, and Google verified TimbrGate's access to it in September 2026.

• Check which of your live gates still depend on a SoundCloud step that fans can now skip.
• Recreate the important ones on a gate that verifies the action through the official API.
