ToneDen Shutdown: Move Your Links Before 1 December

By Evyatar H. · Updated

ToneDen is shutting down its standalone platform on 1 December 2026, and 30 November is the last day to request a copy of your data (ToneDen Help Center, updated 21 October 2026). After that, ToneDen smart links, pre-save links and social unlocks stop working.

This checklist covers the export, then one release at a time: a smart link, a download gate, and the places you still share the old URL. What TimbrGate can and cannot replace is on the ToneDen alternative page. TimbrGate is free to start.

1. Audit your destinations before replacing them

Make a sheet with one row per release. Record its current landing page, the Spotify and other store URLs, the download filename, required fan actions and every place you share the link. Include your Instagram bio, pinned posts, YouTube descriptions, mailing list templates, QR codes and active advertising destinations.

Open each current link in a signed-out browser and on a phone. Test a streaming button and a complete download, not just whether the page loads. Record the result for that release.

Export your ToneDen data by 30 November 2026. Use ToneDen's Privacy Portal: enter your account email, click Request Export, and download from the email link (ToneDen export steps). Fan contacts collected through ToneDen are in that export, so keep the consent context with them. Keep original masters and cover art in your own storage. Publishing a new page does not transfer email permissions, previous campaign reports or download history.

2. Rebuild a smart link for one release

In TimbrGate, choose Smart Link in the builder and paste an existing streaming URL. Check the resolved title, artist and artwork before publishing. Open each destination and confirm that it plays the intended release. Add missing destinations yourself, and remove or reorder any that do not belong.

Order services around your audience and choose a recognizable slug. Preview the page on both phone and desktop. The new address is independent of your ToneDen address even if the slug is identical. Test it before replacing a bio link or changing an ad that is already spending money.

For a fuller setup walkthrough, read the smart link guide. Start with one release so you can catch a wrong destination before repeating the same mistake across your catalogue.

3. Rebuild the download journey separately

A smart link sends fans to streaming services. A Download Unlock gate delivers a file after the actions you configure. Upload the original file you have permission to distribute, add its artwork and describe what the fan will receive. Check the format and filename by downloading the published gate yourself.

Keep the action list short. SoundCloud follow, like, repost and YouTube subscribe are API-verified after the fan authorizes once; other steps are guided. Test the flow signed out and pay attention to any login or consent screen a new fan sees.

If you collect emails, explain that purpose and keep the permissions associated with each list. A new download gate does not give you permission to reuse an old list for another purpose. The download gate guide covers the setup and the difference between action types.

4. Test measurement before sending paid traffic

Reconnect the tracking settings you need on the new gate. TimbrGate supports the Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Google Ads and GA4, with server-side events on gates when the fan consents. These integrations measure configured events; they do not create ad campaigns or replace visitor consent. Run your campaigns in the advertising platform.

Use a test visit with campaign parameters, accept the relevant cookies, and click a real destination. Check the gate analytics and the advertising platform's test events view. Repeat after declining cookies so you understand the consent behavior. If you configure browser and server delivery, check that one action is not counted twice. Keep the same event meaning when comparing old and new campaigns.

Judge your result by the action you want. A landing-page visit, a streaming-button click, a completed download and a stream inside a music app are different events. A smart link click alone cannot confirm that the fan listened or saved the track.

5. Move traffic before 1 December

Replace one destination at a time and mark it in your release sheet. Check the live bio or post after saving, since some apps cache previews. Printed QR codes and links in other people's posts need special attention: you cannot change their destination unless you control the address they point to.

ToneDen says its smart links stop working on 1 December 2026, including links on custom domains. They do not redirect to TimbrGate. Replace the old link in each bio, post, email and ad before that date. Record the cutover date, campaign destination and the metrics you use as your baseline. Compare comparable periods and traffic sources. More clicks after a migration can reflect a new campaign or repeated tests.

Pause or review ToneDen-managed ads in Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads. They keep spending after 1 Dec until you change them. For releases that need a pre-save, use another tool for that step; TimbrGate does not offer pre-saves yet.
